History and Background of The Philanthropy Workshop West (TPWW)
In 2001, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the TOSA Foundation launched The Philanthropy Workshop West (TPW West) in collaboration with The Rockefeller Foundation, with the project operated by the Hewlett Foundation. TPW West concluded as a project of the Hewlett Foundation on May 31, 2009 and is now an independent organization. TPW West was created in response to a growing number of requests made by individual donors seeking an educational framework to explore innovative, creative, and strategic approaches to philanthropy.
Each year the course provides a small group of individuals the opportunity to work with prominent figures from the fields of philanthropy, policy, and public management to develop a deep understanding of the nonprofit sector and strategies for maximizing his or her effectiveness as individual philanthropists. The course provides active, hands-on skills building workshops, issues seminars and the opportunity to network and collaborate with notable leaders and other philanthropists across the United States and internationally. |
