Prior to joining SRI, Ms. Sherry was in private law practice and served in the leadership of the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, where she worked actively on a range of public interest issues, from media to civil justice reform to child advocacy. Her twenty-year career of pro bono legal work has included such diverse issues as historic preservation, environmental protection, arms control, civil justice and immigration and asylum proceedings.

Ms. Sherry has worked for the American Society of International Law, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the Ploughshares Fund, the latter two engagements focusing on arms control. Her media expertise includes work for a variety of legal publications and Newsweek magazine. She earned her J.D. at the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law in 1980. She received her A.B. from Stanford University in 1976 in the Humanities Honors Program, with a dual major in Comparative Literature and International Relations. She currently serves as a trustee of both the San Francisco Ballet and Crystal Springs Upland School.
